To Increase Innovation, Take the Sting Out of Failure

"We need more innovation around here. We need people to think more creatively and be more entrepreneurial. I've been saying this for the last couple years, and yet very little seems to be changing. It's very frustrating."

"See Why We Have An Absolutely Ridiculous Standard Of Beauty"

Model Before and After better

See Why We Have An Absolutely Ridiculous Standard Of Beauty In this video. There is the reason that even when I was in really great shape, wore a size 4, and was healthy, it was never good enough for me. All of my logic and intelligence have trouble combatting what I've seen as "perfect" day after day for my entire life.

Time-lapse video shows the radical effect of photoshop on model's body - AMAZING!

The most important quality of Science or Art is Curiosity

Explore ideas worth spreading, every day

In his TEDGlobal 2013 talk, Fabian Oefner shares breathtaking images at the nexus of art and science, which beautifully capture unique moments of physical and chemical drama.

Formally trained in art and design, Oefner says that he has always been interested in science. Though he can’t pinpoint the exact moment when he became interested in pairing his two loves, he views both pursuits as inextricably linked by a crucial bond: “The most important quality of science or art is curiosity,” Oefner tells TED. “That’s what keeps me going and always finding something new.”

Best Ideas Are Never Very Creative

Best Ideas Are Never Very Creative
By Jeffrey Paul Baumgartner via Creativity Post

If you are looking for truly original ideas, you need to remove the word "best" from your evaluation process. Brainstorms, ideas, campaigns and similar idea extravaganzas very often end with a vague notion of choosing the best idea. The problem is that a truly creative idea, the kind of idea that has the potential to become a breakthrough innovation, is seldom the best solution to the problem or the best path to achieving a goal -- for the very simple reason that highly creative ideas are original.

People helping people: the future of public services

 SOCIAL & Publications UK

" People helping people: the future of public services"

By Emma Clarence & Madeleine Gabriel via Nesta

Public services should be redesigned to make mobilising the energy and contribution of the public a core organising principle.

Key Findings:
There is a long tradition of people helping people, but there is the potential for far more to be done by people alongside and within public services.
  •
Public services could do more to be open and create opportunities for citizens to use their talents and capabilities to support each other through social action.
  •
In England, the economic contribution of social action in and alongside public services is £34 billion

Rising demand and resource constraints makes redesigning public services imperative. There is a long tradition of people helping people in the UK, but there is the potential for far more to be done. What is needed are more open public services that have the mobilisation of people as their core organising principle.

Lessons From Chile About Doing Good For The World

Why should poor people receive the most obsolete technologies—when their lives can be impacted the most by advances in technology? Should my education and talent be used to make rich and powerful corporations even more so—or to help those in need? These are questions that Alfredo Zolezzi agonized over after achieving early success as a scientist and entrepreneur.

Then he read a United Nations report that said that 884 million people are without access to safe drinking water and that 1.5 million children under five years of age die each year as a result of water- and sanitation-related diseases. This pushed him over the edge. He knew this was something that technology could easily help fix—though no one had done anything about it.

In this special report on the World's Most Innovative Companies, there are plenty of examples to make you a believer ("I've never been more excited about the possibilities ahead of us," Nike CEO Mark Parker recently told me).
