July 13 is recognized as World Rock Day. The date celebrates rock annually and was chosen in honor of Live Aid, a mega event that happened on that day in 1985. The celebration is a reference to a desire expressed by Phil Collins, who participated in the event, would like to see it as the "world rock day". The event was also known to feature such great artists as Queen, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood, Elton John, Paul McCartney, David Bowie, U2 among others.

On July 13, 1985, Bob Geldof organized Live Aid, a concert simultaneously in London, England, and Philadelphia, in the United States. The main goal was to end hunger in Ethiopia. The event drew the attention for having the presence of many famous artists at the time. Among the participants, were The Who, Status Quo, Led Zeppelin, Dire Straits, Madonna, Queen, Joan Baez, David Bowie, BB King, Mick Jagger, Sting, Scorpions, U2, Paul McCartney, Phil Collins (who played in both places ), Eric Clapton and Black Sabbath.

The shows were broadcast live by the BBC for many countries and opened the world's eyes to the misery in Africa.

In 2005, 20 years after the first event, Bob Geldof organized the Live 8, a new edition with larger structure and shows in more countries. This time the goal was to pressure the G8 leaders to forgive the debt of the poorest countries and to eradicate poverty in the world.

Celebration only in Brazil

Despite being called "World Day of Rock", the date is only celebrated in Brazil. She began to be celebrated in the mid-1990s, when two radios paulistanas specializing in rock - 89 FM and 97 FM - began to mention the date on your schedule. 3 The conclusion was widely accepted by listeners and, in a few years, has become popular throughout the country. However, this date is completely ignored in the rest of the world.

Other countries and localities do not have a specific date to celebrate this music style or have other dates. In the U.S., few people commemorating the date on the 9th of July, in honor of the "American Bandstand, Dick Clark, who debuted this data.4 The program helped popularize rock and roll in the U.S..
