"The Rock Revolution with Rolling Stones"
 Making history in Cuba

“Finally, the times are changing... this is a new time” said  Mick Jagger on Rolling Stones Concert at Cuba.

On 1 March, the band announced they would be playing a bonus show, a free open air concert in Havana, Cuba on 25 March. This was seen as a big occasion, as this was one of the first times foreign rock music was allowed to be performed in the country in over half a century. The concerts have been made possible by the recent thaw in relations with the communist country and the United States. President Obama, recently announced a ground breaking visit to Cuba in the spring of 2016, approximately three days before the Rolling Stone arrive in Havana.President Obama will be the first United States President to visit Cuba since the Cuban Revolution in 1959.

Work 3.0: Meet the Future of Work

     FutureofWork2

It’s hard to believe that even 10 years ago we didn’t have Facebook or Twitter. Ten years before then, we didn’t have the Internet. We have come a long way in a relatively short period of time, and new technologies are now requiring changes in the way we work. Today’s workforce is more dispersed, global, mobile, flexible – you name it. We are also witnessing the rise of a new generation of workers, the Milliennials, who will soon be the largest and most connected sector of the workforce.

"Architecture and Social Disrupt" Get to Know Alejandro Aravena the Pritzker Prize Winner Who Builds Half-Finished Homes

"Get to Know Alejandro Aravena"

the Pritzker Prize Winner Who Builds Half-Finished Homes

The UC Innovation Center, on the Universidad Católica de Chile’s campus, is the building you’re likely to see first if you Google Aravena. Photo by Nina Vidic.

By Margaret Rhodes via WIRED: In 2014, Alejandro Aravena, the architect who just won the prestigious Pritzker Prize, delivered a TED talk on his work. He punctuated the talk by turning his back to the audience and scrawling drawings and equations on a blackboard with a stick of chalk. The old-school presentation method invited his audience to watch his ideas take shape in real time, emphasizing process over finished product.

Metaphorically speaking, it was a fitting presentation technique for Aravena, who practices what he calls “incremental design.” With this approach, he and the designers at Elemental, his studio, build housing structures that are deliberately unfinished. Consider the Quinta Monroy Housing project, which Aravena worked on in Iquique, Chile, in 2004. Aravena’s team built out the units’ foundations and concrete frames, and left it at that. The approach, he argues, gave future residents a chance to complete their respective units as they saw fit, resulting in culturally appropriate homes that actually look and feel like homes, as opposed to government-issued housing.  See full article via  WIRED.

"Happy Women Day!"

International Women's Day

Happy Women Day!

Celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievement of women. Yet let's also be aware progress has slowed in many places across the world, so urgent action is needed to accelerate gender parity. Leaders across the world are pledging to take action as champions of gender parity.

El Dinero perdió el Juicio

Life & Philosophy
