Over the past six months, WIRED has been gathering nominations for the inaugural WIRED Audi Innovation Awards. Today, we’re delighted to reveal the winners. The WIRED Audi Innovation Awards are designed to highlight and celebrate the extraordinary achievements of UK entrepreneurs and companies whose work exemplified innovation and social impact during the past year. WIRED AUDI INNOVATION AWARDS VIA WIRED UK
Social Innovation can refer to new strategies, concepts and projects that better the world – through healthcare, education or key services
Science and technology can – and must – be forces for good in society, and in the world at large. From the ways in which vaccines and medical machinery are saving lives, to air travel making the planet a smaller place, to the way the internet is advancing transparency, dialogue, and the free circulation of knowledge and information, great innovations have improved the lives of people around the world.
As tech’s big-shots begin to grasp how substantial their potential for relevant impact is, many of them have launched initiatives under the guise of catalysing positive social change.

The winners include London artificial intelligence firm DeepMind, bionic hand manufacturer Open Bionics, and Sheila Rowan, leader of Glasgow-based team that helped confirm the existence of gravitational waves.
To decide on the nominations, panels of judges suggested nominees in seven categories before voting on the eventual winners.
