"Massive, world changing competitions. Disruptive, breakthrough technology and innovation. We are a catalyst for the benefit of humanity. An innovation engine." XPRIZE
Mission: Abundance
The mission of XPRIZE is to clearly articulate a vision of a preferred and positive future across a set of domains, identify a roadmap of breakthroughs needed to get there, and establish the incentive competitions that will focus the resources, talent and technology required to enable those breakthroughs and accelerate that future. To inspire and guide innovators to create breakthroughs enabling a world of abundance -- a world where every man, woman and child can access all the energy, clean drinking water, shelter, education and healthcare they require.

XPRIZE Visioneering
The Process
Crowdsourcing Designs
For each of the five Grand Challenge Areas, XPRIZE is crowdsourcing hundreds of prize designs from around the world. Accenture has contributed pro-bono executives to design prizes as well.
By August 1st, hundreds of ideas will be narrowed down to four Semi-Finalists per each of the five Grand Challenge Areas. These ideas will compete head-tohead at our two day Design Hackathon hosted at XPRIZE HQ in Culver City, CA.
Two-Day Design Hackathon
During this two day event, the 20 Semi-Finalists will pitch their Prize Designs to XPRIZE's brain trust of 150 philanthropists, trustees and innovators. They will receive feedback, iterate their ideas and compete to move forward.
Ultimately, two designs per Grand Challenge Area will win the Hackathon, and become Finalists, entering into competition at the Visioneering Summit.
Visioneering Summit
Visioneering brings together a highly curated crowd of accomplished CEOs, world leaders, philanthropists, influencers and thought leaders who care about going from success to significance. Day 1 and Day 2 of the XPRIZE Annual Visioneering Summit is a version of “Shark Tank” meets “The Voice” as Prize Designs compete against each other for impact support and philanthropic funding. Ten Finalist Prize Designs will be voted down to five Category Winners, and ultimately one Prize Design will be crowned the overall Summit Grand Prize Winner.
On Day 3 of the Summit, participants will have the unique opportunity to present and pitch a Grand Challenge Area that they are passionate about addressing. Teams of participants organically form, collaborate, ideate, pitch and vote. Dozens of pitches will ultimately be voted down to the top five Grand Challenge Areas that will enter into the cycle for Visioneering 2019.
XPRIZE FUNDATION
Since 1994, XPRIZE has designed and launched seventeen prizes in the domain areas of Space, Oceans, Learning, Health, Energy, Environment, Transportation, Safety and Robotics.
The first XPRIZE, $10 million Ansari XPRIZE for private spaceflight, spurred an industry and created exponential breakthroughs. Since then we have launched over $140 million in prize purses, including the $15 million Global Learning XPRIZE, the $10 million Qualcomm Tricorder XPRIZE, and the $1.4 million Wendy Schmidt Oil Cleanup XPRIZE.
Each of these prizes has created an industry-changing technology that brings us closer to a better, safer, more sustainable world.
XPRIZE unifying principles
XPRIZES are monetary rewards to incentivize three primary goals:Attract investment from outside the sector that takes new approaches to difficult problems.
Create significant results that are real and meaningful. Competitions have measurable goals, and are created to promote adoption of the innovation.
Cross national and disciplinary boundaries to encourage teams around the world to invest the intellectual and financial capital required to solve difficult challenges.
Other organizations such as the Nobel Prize committee award prizes and financial rewards to individuals or organizations that produce novel advances in science, medicine and technology. One difference between the XPRIZES and other similar organizations is
awarding prizes based on the first to achieve objective 'finish line' requirements rather than a selection committee discussing the relative merits of different endeavors. For instance, the Archon Genomics XPRIZE target was to sequence 100 human genomes in 10 days or less, with less than one error per 100,000 DNA base pairs, covering 98% of the genome and costing less than $10,000 per genome (this prize was cancelled because it was outpaced by innovation).
The prize can increase attention to endeavors that otherwise might not receive much publicity. For example, attempts in the recent Lunar Lander competition have been well publicized in the media, increasing visibility of both the foundation and the participants.
With the Ansari XPRIZE, XPRIZE established a model in which offering a prize for achieving a specific goal can stimulate entrepreneurial investment. Since then, new challenges have expanded into a range of other fields. XPRIZE is developing new prizes in Exploration (Space and Oceans), Life Sciences, Energy & Environment, Education and Global Development. Some hope the prizes will help improve lives, create equity of opportunity and stimulate new, important discoveries.
Why Prizes?
XPRIZE use large-scale global incentive competitions to crowdsource solutions to the world's grand challenges.
"We believe that solutions can come from anyone, anywhere. Scientists, engineers, academics, entrepreneurs and other innovators with new ideas from all over the world are invited to form teams and compete to win the prize. Rather than throw money at a problem, we incentivize the solution and challenge the world to solve it" XPRIZE.
The incentive prize contest has existed for centuries. From the inception of the Longitude prize in 1714, through the Orteig prize that compelled Charles Lindbergh to fly across the Atlantic, prizes have ignited passions and brought about breakthroughs that no one thought possible.
