Is there a Future without Science? Will we be able to advance to an energy, collaborative and more solidary civilization? Can we really be sustainable? Human Genome Edition ?. These are some of the questions that will mobilize the dialogue and reflection at this year's congress ... that will be addressed under the central question "What species do we want to be?" It leads us to question ourselves as people and as a society about the future we want to build.

Under the question "What species do we want to be?" the eighth version of the Future Congress, the most important scientific-citizen event in Latin America, will be held between January 14 and 20, organized by the Senate Future Challenges Commission together with the Encuentros del Futuro Foundation and in collaboration with Fundación Novel . This body brings together the most renowned scientists and humanists in the world to address the challenges that arise in science and knowledge, to generate dialogue and reflection that will define our society in the social, political, cultural and economic.
Among the speakers are Richard Dawkins, evolutionary biologist, zoologist and known ethologist reinterpret the radical concept of the "selfish gene", a thesis that points out that the Darwinian proposal is not explained through the selection of individuals, but of DNA; Amber Case, an American sociologist who says that "all humans are cyborgs" and that "good technology should amplify our capabilities as humans"; Brigitte Baptiste, Colombian biologist who will explain about the importance of nature's biodiversity; Catherine Cesarsky, physicist and doctor in Astronomy, in charge of one of the largest astronomical projects in the world: ALMA (Atacama Large Millimeter / Submillimeter Array), located in the Atacama Desert; and Anil Seth, professor of cognitive and computational neuroscience at the University of Sussex and co-director of the Sackler Center for the Science of Consciousness, who will explain how his own medical experiences have allowed him to discover the way the brain works and sensory information who receive our bodies.

They also highlight -among many others- the presentations by Marcos Galperin, founder and CEO of Mercado Libre; Martín Hilpert, Doctor in Communication, Economics and Social Sciences, and who was the first to calculate the volume of digital information in the world; Tricia Wang, pioneer in advocating for the integration of Big Data in companies and who has researched the social evolution of the Internet in China and the United States for two decades; and Mercedes Bunz, doctor of philosophy who will refer to the "Internet of things", social networks and artificial intelligence.

"Chile has begun to receive the most brilliant minds on the planet who for six days will debate their ideas and research and communicate directly and closely with the citizens who are eager to learn first hand at the 2017 Future Congress, the advances, the conclusions and projections of the nearly 90 experts in science, humanities, technology and innovation, on the future in which we already exist ...
