Speakers

Rob Nail

CEO & Associate Founder @Singularity University

Rob brings a unique entrepreneurial and globally-focused approach to growing a non-traditional university as a platform to create a future of abundance where exponential technologies empower us to solve the global grand challenges. Prior to Singularity, he co-founded Velocity11 in 1999, building automation equipment and robotics for cancer research and drug discovery. After being acquired by Agilent Technologies in 2007, he traded the CEO role for a General Manager role attempting to be a catalyst for change at a big company. He gave up in 2009 to go surfing, then found his true calling and biggest challenge yet with Singularity University. He was recently a director at Harman (HAR). He is currently on the board of Light&Motion, a co-founder and director of Alite Designs, an active angel investor and advisor, and holds degrees in Mechanical, Materials Science and Manufacturing Engineering from UC Davis and Stanford University.
Simone Harris
Certified Emotional Intelligence Coach, Trauma Sensitive Mindfulness Practitioner @Courageous Leadership, LLC and Search Inside Yourself Leadership Institute
Simone is an executive consultant at Courageous Leadership. Using the wisdom of Emotional Intelligence & Trauma-Sensitive Mindfulness practices as anchors, Simone’s coaching technique focuses on working with the client to cultivate a deeper self-awareness, design equitable actions, and then foster sustainable learning and growth. Her work with clients on the individual and corporate level, begins with supporting the recognition of patterns of behavior that are no longer serving the clients’ highest good. As growth opportunities within those patterns are identified, Self-Compassion techniques and practices are tightly woven into each learning session.
Melissa Extein, Psy.D.
Principal Consultant & Part-time Faculty @Extein Consulting & Milano School of Policy, Management, and Environment, The New School
Dr. Melissa Extein brings over 15 years of experience consulting to organizations and groups, particularly start-ups and those focused on philanthropy and social justice. Her work applies theories of emotional intelligence, group development, leadership, and embedded intergroup relations to guide individuals and organizations to understand themselves better and implement changes to improve effectiveness. Guided by these theories, her approach to any engagement includes an examination of organizational dynamics related to identity (e.g. gender, race, age), power, and authority. She works with clients as partners, jointly participating in the creation of knowledge and the development of solutions. Her clients have included tech start-ups, grantmakers, government departments, and non-profits inside and outside the US.

Exponential technologies have ripple effects that are dramatically changing the world of work. Yet too much of the popular focus on the future of work has been on the disruption of human work by robots and AI.

But where is our humanity facing these changes?
Where are our emotions in this competitive world?

Singularity University’s Women’s Impact Network (WIN) is working to increase access to the information and tools that enable communities around the world to support women and female identifying folks in achieving their highest potential.
